Located on the Treasure Coast of Florida, Sewall’s Point is a peninsula sandwiched between Hutchinson Island to the east and Stuart to the west. Both the town and peninsula are named for Captain Henry Edwin Sewall, a direct descendant of Captain Hansen who was granted 27 square miles by the King of Spain when Florida was under Spanish rule. Captain Sewall settled on land that is now the Golden Gate, Port Sewall, and Sewall’s Point.
The peninsula is flanked by the Inlet Aquatic Preserve to the east and the St. Lucie River to the west. Cutting through the middle of the peninsula, the A1A Scenic and Historical Coastal Byway features the town’s only shopping district spanning three blocks of restaurants, retail stores, and Town Hall among other businesses. With only 2000 residents, Sewall’s Point median income is more than $97,000.
